FAQs
What ages do you see?
We see ages 16+.
What are your specialties?
We specialize in seeing individuals struggling with ADHD, infertility, miscarriage and/or early infant loss, grief, end-of-life, and caregiver stress.
Can I see you in the office or online?
Great question! We offer both, sessions in the office or online. We can even have times where we will mix and match. Our office is located in Sycamore, Illinois.
How would telehealth even work?
As long as you are in the state of Illinois, alone, in a private place, not under the influence of any alcohol or other substances, and have internet connection we can meet! We will send you instructions on how to access the link for your session, but you should be able to access the link through your TherapyNotes Portal or through a link in your email. If you are having difficulty, please reach out immediately to your clinician.
Explain confidentiality to me?
Information that is shared in sessions, stays in those sessions. There are a few exceptions* to that rule:
You tell us that you are going to hurt yourself.
You tell us that you are going to hurt someone else.
You tell us about abuse or neglect of a child under 18.
You tell us about abuse or neglect of someone who is vulnerable (requires care from others or has a guardian) or 60+ years old.
We have a court order or subpoena requiring us to share your information.
If you share any of the above with a therapist, we have to take steps for the safety of yourself and/or others.
If you chose to allow us to share information about you with anyone else, we will need a written and signed Release of Information for you that gives us specific permission to share what you would prefer.
*Please note that there are also very rare exceptions where state or federal regulations are able to override confidentiality. Find more information here.
How do I contact my therapist?
Great question! After the first session with your therapist, they will provide you with their contact information to reach out to them directly. If you are in the office, they will give you their business card. If you are online, they will send you a follow-up email with their contact information. The fastest ways to reach your therapist are through text or email. You can call and leave a voicemail, however it tends to take longer to get back to you. We only have a brief period of time between sessions.
What if I’m (or my child is) under 18?
This can be a difficult area and is a really good question. You can find a lot of information at this website. As we only treat those 16+, we require that the minor have a Release of Information on file for the parent/guardian. According to currently Illinois law, “…a parent or guardian of a recipient who is at least 12 but under 18 years is not prohibited from requesting and receiving the following information: current physical and mental condition, diagnosis, treatment needs, services provided, and services needed, including medication, if any.” Please note that there are some exceptional circumstances that may apply.
How does scheduling work here?
You will have a designated day and time that you will meet with your therapist. If you are seen on Monday at 4pm, you will be seen every Monday at 4pm until you and your therapist decide otherwise. We work hard to try and find the best possible schedule for you.
What about cancelling appointments?
Our policy asks that you reach out at least 12 hours in advance of your appointment to cancel or reschedule. You can reach out at any time by text or email to your therapist. We will get back to you when we are back in the office. You can cancel as much in advance as you would like.
But what if I forget or cancel less than 12 hours before?
If you are not at your appointment ~5 minutes after it begins, you will be sent a text from your therapist. If we still have not heard from you, we will text again. After 20 minutes, we will cancel the appointment. Unfortunately, that would mean that our late fee would apply. Our late fee is $50 and would be charged to your credit card that we have securely on file in our HIPAA-compliant system.
How does payment work?
We accept a few different types of insurance. You can find them listed here. We ask that you keep a current credit card on file in our HIPAA-compliant medical system (TherapyNotes). We will automatically charge the card on file for any payments due within the same week as your session. We do accept private pay for sessions and can also provide you with a superbill to submit to your insurance for reimbursement, if we are not in-network with your insurance but they provide out-of-network benefits.
Do you see families or couples?
No, unfortunately we do not currently have a clinician that provides therapy for families or couples. However, we can provide referrals to some truly wonderful local clinicians.
